What is the Okapi?

The common name of Okapi is Okapis and the scientific name is Okapi Johnstoni. Okapi is a type of mammal and their diet is plant based (Herbivore) – leaves, grass, and fruit. They can eat between 45 to 60 pounds of vegetation per day.

They have an average life span of 30 years; their length is about 8 ft and their height 5 ft. Okapi has a mass of 440 to 660 pounds.

You can find Okapi in the rainforest of the Congo region. The only place to find the Okapi is in the wild. It has a thick fur coat that helps it stay dry in the rain and short horns in males and rough bumps in females that are covered in skin.

The Okapi is also known as the forest giraffe, and it is also like a zebra and a deer. The Okapi is the only living close relative to the giraffe.

The Okapi can blend with the surroundings because of its brown fur coat and black and white striped legs. They prefer to live alone and seldom they will assemble in small groups to play or eat together.
